This project presents a photography collection based on abstract expressionism through portraiture/figure; Emulating qualities seen within charcoal or oil paintings where marks and smudges connote emotion or feeling. This perspective is explored through the notion of commercial and product photography. The portraits express the perfume or product and the two co-exist within a commercial environment. This investigates flipping the typical superficial tone of commercialism into something more suggestive and abstract.

It is designed with a minimal aesthetic, with simple quotes on abstractionism and small perfume bottle detail to symbolise the connection between the people and objects. 

 

Both a publication and newspaper were designed for this series for limited higher production prints and a mass production alternative. Created for photographer James Pickering @james_picturing.
