PRETERNATURAL
I was given the task of creating a printed publication of the photography series by Rhianna Thomas for her undergraduate course in fashion photography. This series looked at the future, playing with ethereal, transporting lighting and sparkling iridescent textiles and garments.
To produce meaning behind the publication's production I created a narrative: As an abstracted catalogue from the future - what might we be able to browse through and buy in the year 3000? The photographs are presented as selling points, annotated or described as purchasable avatars, surgeries and AI fashion pieces. Need a face lift? Wait until 3000 for the Bionic Face
Mapping Texture ©.
On the subject of Transhumanism and the future, it uses digital, technical and notational details and aesthetics to create a tone that feels futuristic. It also looks to encourage the viewer to question this future - what will it look like? Is it clinical, colourful or foreboding? Does it excite you, or scare you?
To fulfil this narrative extensive research was
done to write the content text. Alongside this, I designed the type, layout, publication cover and digitally manipulated images to enhance the visual storytelling. I also carried through the print and production of this publication.
